Travel to Thessaloniki 

The nearest airport is Thessaloniki Macedonia (code: SKG), which is at 9 kms and can be reached by public transportation.  
The airport offers several domestic flights per day to Athens, as well as some international flights to Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Vienna, Istanbul, Brussels, etc. Thessaloniki can also be reached by train and by coach, with a few international lines. See here for more information.

Travel from Thessaloniki airport to the hotel 

Those participants (students & lecturers) arriving on Saturday or on Sunday at Thessaloniki airport, and who gave their arrival time/flight, will be met there by students from Thessaloniki university, who will help you find a taxi. At the arrivals gate, look for the sign with the TOSCA logo on it. The trip costs about 20€. Please keep the receipt with you in order to get reimbursed.
 
It is also possible to reach the hotel by bus, with a stopover.  At the airport, take bus nr 78 towards the city and get off at the bus stop called EMPORIKO KENTRO, (bus terminal IKEA). This trip takes about 15 min. From there you will have to take the bus number 72 to N. Michaniona. The bus stop for the hotel Santa is “GALAXIAS”.  The Santa Beach hotel is within a walking distance (50m) and is visible from the bus stop. The cost of the ticket is 0.80€ and can be bought at a ticket booth outside the airport with limited opening hours, at kiosks, or at the ticket machine in the bus (0, 90€, small change is needed for that). 

 

 

General Visa Information


Visitors from outside the European Union (EU) should check whether or not a visa is required. In most cases a valid passport will be sufficient. Moreover, visitors from central and east Europe should check whether or not a special health insurance is required for receiving a visa. All insurance and visa costs must be borne by the participant.

Schengen Agreement : Greece is a member of the Schengen Agreement and so are Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Participants from outside these countries and the European Union (EU) but with a valid visa for one of the Schengen countries may freely move into and within any other Schengen country without any further controls.

Letter of Invitation : Participants who need to receive an official letter of invitation in order to obtain a visa, to raise travel funds or for administrative purposes should apply for this invitation sending their request to sun2climate@sciencesconf.org Please be specific in mentioning what should be mentioned on this letter besides your name and the fact that you're invited to attend the school.

It should be understood, however, that such an invitation is not a commitment on the part of the organisers to provide financial support.
